Good silver repousee pendulette pair case verge and fusee circa 1782.
The outer case repousee with a classical scene (with most of the facial
details still present) within scrolling rococo borders.
Silver champlevee dial with arcaded minute ring, gold decorations between the
numbers, and fancy gold hands.
Gilt movement with pierced and engraved regulator plate, double footed glazed
balance cock with the figure of father time exposing a mock pendulum, and square pillars.
Very attractive.
This watch is a bit of a mystery. During this period that was considerable horological
trade between London and Amsterdam. The English made watches for the Dutch
and some of them had spurious Dutch signatures. And the Dutch were only to happy
to do the same for the English. And these watches often had spurious English
hallmarks. This example has a Dutch style movement with the signature of a respected
Dutch maker with London, and the cases have English hallmarks!
