Lovely and very unusual ladies Swiss 18K gold and enamel pendant watch circa 1890
with colored foil under the enamel integrated into the design.
Fully engraved case, the back with a painted enamel nighttime harbor scene
(with scratches in the clear overglaze). The lighthouse light and
windows, the ship light, and the moon are all foil backed and shine very brightly.
White enamel dial (edge repair mostly hidden by the case) with fancy gold hands.
Gilt 10 jewel cylinder movement.
Metal foil has long been used to enhance enamel designs, but is it usually applied
over a solid enamel area just under the overglaze. The is the only watch I have
seen using foil in this way, and it is so attractive that it is surprising that it is so rare.
