Fine, rare, beautiful, large and early French oval pre-hairspring silver and gilt brass
clockwatch by P. Cuper, Blois, circa 1600. The silver case back beautifully engraved
with naked warriors amidst inhabited foliage. Richly decorated gilt brass dial with
silver chapter ring and single blued steel hand. The case band with pierced and
engraved scrolling folliage. Wonderful movement with pierced and engraved click,
foliot balance, pinned cock with a figure holding an hour glass, fusee with gut
and pierced and engraved strike barrel. A museum quality rarity.
