Fine and very rare self-winding antique pocket watch circa 1777 by Abraham-Louis Perrelet, the inventor of self-winding watches. The back plate with the large oscillating weight. White enamel dial (cracks and repaired chips) and fancy gold hands (one replaced). Going barrel virguile movement with the balance between the plates, Silver case with slightly sprung bezel.
Breguet was so impressed with this invention that he bought some of these watches from Perrelet. The only other complete original example of this watch known to us is in the Patek Philippe museum.8219 |
