Important and extremely rare Glashutte detent deck chronometer by Stuebner
for Kittel circa 1900.
Fine white enamel dial with black markings, blued steel hands, and up/down
indication. Heavy plain polish silver case with gold hinges. Frosted gilt 3/4 plate
freesprung movement with Stuebner's pivoted detent escapement. The hand engraved
cock with diamond endstone. Chronometer balance with gold and platinum screws.
Particularly nice example.
Fridolin Stuebner is considered the most important maker of chronometers in
Glashuette. Herkner remarks: "Lang's continued success at the important
chronometer tests of the Hamburg observatory began with the marine
chronometers regulated by Fridolin Stuebner".
